~Creative Writing #1~

I've had these papers for a while, just haven't had time to put them up.  Here's the first one.

~A Picnic Day by the River~

Ten year old Molly and her family were having a picnic down by the river, and the weather was perfect. The sun was shining down and reflecting off the glistening water. There was no breeze, so they didn’t have to worry about any of their stuff being whisked away into the river.

Molly helped her family unpack everything. First they laid out the picnic blanket and put the picnic basket in the center of the blanket. They had packed tons of perfect finger food: deli sandwiches, apple slices and other fruit, chips, and for drinks they brought some water bottles.

After bringing out all the food and supplies, Molly decided she wanted to go walk around and explore. Going down a little path, Molly saw lots of gorgeous and exciting sights. There were wildflowers growing along the path, and the shadows of the leaves were making different patterns all over the ground.

The birds were chirping their uplifting song, and the butterflies were flying around, such a wonderful sight. Molly tried to let one land in her small hand, but they just flew around her. She looked up, and saw the crowns of the trees shading the sunny day.

As she came through the clearing, she saw a dock. Standing on the dock she watched the water lap against the shore. Some of the fish poked their heads out of the gleaming water. Some flower petals and leaves were floating atop the river.

After taking in all the gorgeous scenery, she decided to return to her parents, and walk along the shore. She walked with her dad and saw lots of different animal tracks in the sand. Deer, rabbits, birds, and dogs had all traveled the path that they were following. The sun was shining and reflecting off of Molly’s red hair. She tossed a stone into the water and watched it plop right to the ground. Her dad showed her how to flick her wrist the right way so that the rock will skip across the surface. Molly tried a few times, but she couldn’t get it to work. “Don’t lose heart, sweetie.” Her dad told her. She gave him a big smile and they walked further down the shore.

They walked for twenty or so minutes and then decided to return their mother who was finishing up setting up the picnic. When they reached Molly’s mom, she gave them a big smile and summoned them over, “Everything’s ready”, she told them.

Molly enjoyed a picnic day by the river with her parents. She enjoyed watching all the gulls and birds fly around their heads, the bugs snacking on the trees, and the fish swimming at the top of the water. She was so excited for the trip down to the river next week.
