~Halloween – Kami’s Night~


It was October 31st, Halloween. Kami was only 12 and she was really excited. She was dressing up as a pirate. Her costume was homemade. Well, at least she went to the thrift store and other stores such as Wal Mart or Target to get supplies. She didn’t, however, go to Wal Mart or Target to buy a pre-made costume. She had found some black leggings and shredded the bottom. She found a red and black striped fitted tee and a black vest. While visiting the thrift store, she found some tall black boots, perfect for a pirate. She went to the store and bought a black bandana cap and an eye patch. She make her dark hair curly. She also went to the local hair salon and got bright red highlights over her dark brown hair. When she was dressed, she was super excited to go out and get some free candy.

When the clock finally struck 6 o’clock, Kami was ready to meet her best friend at the curb and go door to door saying “Trick or Treat!”. The weather was perfect, the wind still and the air a temperature of around 55 degrees. The sun was just setting when Kami met her best friend Trish at the corner. Trish was dressed up as a fairy. She had the traditional fairy wings and glitter. She had light purple tights on over a glittering leotard. She had silver ballet flats and glitter all over her body. Her hair was her natural blonde color and was also curled. Her locks were more so wavy, as compared to Kami’s whose were in tighter spirals.

The girls both had matching Trick-or-Treat bags, a green pumpkin head. The sights were busy. There were many different ‘characters’ running around the neighborhood. There were witches, ghosts, and pumpkins, the expected things. Then there were kids dressed up as the not so expected things: a dishwasher, telephone, potato, snowflakes, and stuff like that. There were groups of teens, young kids, and even some adults dressed up with their own children going door-to-door.

Halloween was a very mystical night and Kami was enjoying every minute of it. There was a sense of joy, yet the traditional Halloween fright floating through the air. Children everywhere were saying “Trick or Treat!” and there were people jumping out of bushes and from behind trees to scare the kids. A man in a mummy mask jumped out from behind a car and startled Kami and Trish.

When Kami and Trish were finished going door to door, they counted all their candy. They both had around 50 pieces each, and had the most fun they’d ever had on the nights they had gone trick-or-treating.
