~Morning Bike Ride – Karla’s Morning~
Karla woke up around 7 o’clock. She looked out the window and it was a beautiful day. The sun was just rising over the hill and the sky was clear. It was a perfect day for Karla’s daily bike ride around the neighborhood.
She got ready. She put some yoga pants on, and a fitted tee. Her pink tennis shoes were the perfect thing to tie her active outfit together. After she was all suited up for her ride, she went out to her back shed. She unlocked the key lock and pulled her bike out. She had difficulty getting her bike out, however, because it was stuck behind her dad’s lawn mower. The shed didn’t smell very good either. The lawn mower was the smell of dead grass and dirt. The wheel barrel smelt of gravel and had mud crusted on the sides of it.
When she finally got her bike out of the back shed, she had to pump up the tires. Her bike was purple with a blue and green stripe and polka dot pattern all over it. Her seat was lime green striped, and her handle bars were pink. It was a mountain bike, so she could adjust to the hills.
By the time she had her tire pumped up and finally set off, the sun was almost completely up. It was so gorgeous it’s orange and pink hue reflecting off the ground. The sky was almost clear, a random cloud here and there. She made sure her shoe laces were tied and the brakes were working and finally headed off on her bike ride.
She rode her bike to the back of her neighborhood where a trail formed. Everything was just beginning to wake up and stir as she made her way to the back of the neighborhood. There were a few rabbits and squirrels scurrying around. The birds were waking up and some mamas were pecking the ground retrieving worms for their young.
When she arrived at the beginning of the trail, she took a right. On her bike ride she saw a few walkers and some other fellow bike riders. A little way along her ride, she noticed some ducks on one of the many ponds.
There was a mother duck and she was being followed by her 6 younger ducklings. Karla took a break from riding and stopped to watch them. She noticed how the mother would check on the younger ones and make sure they were coming. Three of the babies were bright yellow, while the other three were a duller yellow. They were practically floating across the gleaming water. On the bank there were some turtles bathing in the rising sun. There was a crane, its long legs keeping it above the water, that Karla could see in the distance.
When she resumed her ride, Karla saw many birds in the high grass. There were cardinals and finches, songbirds and pheasants. She noticed all the different colors of the birds, bright and not so bright. There was a variety of sizes and they all had their own personalities just like people. Some were greedy and took seeds and grasses from other birds, while some were timid and let the greedier ones take their possession.
On her way back to her house, lots of her neighbors were coming out of their houses and going out to get their morning newspapers. She waved to her next door neighbor and lots of other people she passed. Karla also gave an occasional ‘Hi, how are you?’ to some of her acquaintances.
When she returned from her bike ride, the sun was high in the sky and shining brightly. There were a few puffy clouds and the air was becoming warm. Her morning ride was very enjoyable and calming, the perfect beginning to the start of her day. She was in a wonderful mood and loved enjoying all the sounds and sights of nature.
