~Winter Wonderland~
Looking out her bedroom window, 13 year old Carson watched the snow coming down. The white powdery fluff was coming down from the sky so graciously. The flakes looked so pretty, decorating the ground like giant sparkles.
The fenced yard was filling up with the snow, and it looked gorgeous with the trees' bare limbs holding the sparkling snow. It was a gray day even though there was a sense of delight floating around. Though gloomy and cold, Carson decided to go out and walk around the neighborhood to see what kind of things she could see.
The next door neighbor kids were building a snowman. They were running around the yard energetically and then they would giggle when one of them would trip over the snow mounds in the yard. Carson also let out a chuckle as one of them tossed a snowball at her. She did the same, scooping the snow up in her purple gloves.
When she got to the end of the road, she took a left and headed down to the park. The park had a little ledge, almost like a small cliff, that over looks their little town. As Carson walked towards the ledge, she noticed how nicely the rail was decorated for the season. There was garland wrapped around it, just as a flower vine would wrap around a fence; and the lights looked so pretty, as the snow reflected off of them. As she sat on the bench and looked down on the town, she saw the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
Carson saw everyone scurrying around the town like tiny ants who just found a picnic basket. Lots of people were carrying big shopping bags and cars were parked in lines along the street, their owners somewhere among the craziness. The tree was vividly lit up. It was a gorgeous spruce tree, covered in lights and ornaments. The icicles added for flair really sparked the lights, making them look brighter than ever. The ice skating rink was filled with people: young, old, people learning to skate, and people who knew. Just a pretty site from up above.
Carson put out her glove and caught a few snowflakes in her hand. How beautiful they were, their patterns not one matching another. They stayed on her glove for a few seconds, but then the warmth of her hands coming through made them melt away. Kind of like how the Christmas spirit can sometimes just make everything else in life melt away.
On her walk back home, Carson watched all the younger kids sledding down the hills and building snowmen. She remembered how she loved to do that, but today she just wanted to walk and enjoy the world around her. Going through the streets were carolers; their songs bringing even more joy to the holiday season. They were standing at people's doors, singing in the parks, and just enjoying themselves walking around and singing to the world.
Before finally going inside to warm up and enjoy family time, she took one last look at the pleasure around her. She took in a breath of air filled with thankfulness, happiness, and just plain joy, then she realized why Christmas time was one of her favorite times of the year. J
